How exactly does this game work? |
Now you see? That's a great question. If you want to learn to play Texas Holdem you can't be afraid to ask questions. The object of Texas Holdem as in any poker game is simple, win money from those playing at your table. The problem with Texas Holdem is nobody else at the table is willing to give up their money nicely. Good thing you showed up here, we're going to help you take it anyway. |
Wanted: Handyman, good with blinds |
Nothing gets started in Texas Hold'em without the posting of the blinds. A blind is broken into two categories, the small blind and the large blind. The venetian blind is a different web site all together. A small blind consists of half the minimum bet of the table you're playing at while a large blind consist of the full minimum bet. So if you're sitting at a table and the minimum bet is $5.00, the small blind would be $2.50 while the large blind would be $5.00 To start things off, the person to the immediate left of the dealer would post the small blind and the player to the left of them would post the large blind. The other players do not add any money to the pot at this time but because the deal moves around the table everyone will eventually get a chance to post blinds. Got it? Good. Now the fun stuff starts. |

The Play is the thing |
The Deal:
Two cards each are dealt starting with the player posting the small blind. Betting in this round starts with the player sitting to the left of the big blind. They now have the option of either calling the blind bet at $5.00, raising the bet to $10.00 or folding their hand and crying like a school girl while the rest of the hand gets played out. When the betting comes back around to the small blind they may now call the bet with $2.50 (assuming nobody raised) seeing as they posted $2.50 with the small blind earlier. The player that posted the large blind may now either raise, in which case betting would make another round or "check" at which point betting for the round would stop.
The Flop:
Three more cards are now dealt face up in the middle of the table. These are community cards that everyone uses to try and create the best poker hand. Isn't it great when we all share? Betting begins again with the closest player to the left of the dealer that is still in the game. Once again, the bets will be a $5.00 minimum to get things going.
The Turn:
One more card is now dealt to the center of the table and yet another round of betting begins...this time however it's going to cost you $10.00 to stay in the game.
The River:
Woo Hoo! The final card of the round is dealt to the center of the table and the betting kicks off again. This is do or die time. If you could have a poker face online this would be the time to have it. You either have the winning hand or you're bluffing your butt off. Either way it all ends here.
The Showdown:
Anyone who hasn't folded and remains in the game now turns over their cards for all to see. Best hand wins the pot, in the event of a tie the pot is split between the tied players.
How do you know if you have the best hand? You can check the hand rankings to find out.
